Kiwi’s are fabulous for you – and taste great too.
Here’s some reasons to love it….
1. Supports digestion with enzymes
Raw kiwi contains actinidain, a protein-dissolving enzyme that can help digest a meal much like the papain in papaya or bromelain in pineapple.
2. May help with blood pressure
Kiwi’s high level of potassium helps keep our electrolytes in balance by counteracting the effects of sodium.
3. Protects from DNA damage
A study by Collins, Horska and Hotten showed that the unique combination of antioxidants in kiwi helps protect the cell DNA from oxidative damage.
4. Boosts immunity
Kiwi’s high vitamin C content along with other antioxidant compounds has been proven to boost the immune system.
5. Supports weight loss
Kiwi’s low glycemic index and high fiber content means it will not create a strong insulin rush like other fruit with high sugar content, as high insulin can often result in your body storing fat. Kiwis are a great source of fiber. This prevents constipation and other intestinal problems.
6. Cleans out toxins
The fuzzy fiber of kiwi helps bind and move toxins from your intestinal tract.
Kiwi Apple Juice Recipe
This juice is not super sweet, which I love. It will only give you a small glass – perfect for a little snack or to accompany breakfast.
- 2 kiwis
- 1 apple, cored
- 2 celery stalks
Juice the kiwi, apple and celery together in a juicing machine. Serve.
IF BLENDING
Chop the celery, apple and kiwi. Add it to your blender machine with 1 cup of spring water. Blend until smooth. If you’d like it sweeter, add 1 tablespoon of honey or 1 pitted date.
TIP: When juicing or smoothie-ing them, it’s okay to leave the outside skin on it, just make sure you wash it well first.
